Frances Claire - Birth Doula-Postpartum Doula
I have been a birth supporter for many years around the Cowichan Valley on gorgeous Vancouver Island, and am dedicated to supporting families on the beautiful journey of pregnancy, child birth and postpartum.
A few years ago I came across the word that would soon become one of my purposes and meaning in life...Doula!.
I searched for a doula program that really felt right to me. Pacific Rim College was the one I chose, with a 4 month program (270hours). The holistic approach was perfect for me and what I want to bring. This program is the most comprehensive doula training in North America and focuses on a holistic approach including Herbal Medicine, Thai Massage, Acupressure, Homeopathy, Nutrition, and Anatomy.
I bring my immense love, helpfulness and inner power to my clients to ensure that they feel fully supported. Pregnancy and bringing a child into the world are two of the most powerful times in a woman's life. I am here to let you know your options and support your decisions with no judgment. I'm here for you. <3
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. As a doula, I guide parents and nourish their roots for their innate ability to birth and care for their children.
Prenatally I will meet with you and your partner twice, the first time to get to know each other a bit better, explore and discuss your birth preferences, discuss any fears or concerns, and plan how we might work best together as a team. This opens discussion on things and gives me a better idea of your situation, personal preferences and personality. If there are things you would like more information on, this gives me a chance to answer specific questions or make notes of things you would like more information on.
The second meeting we go over in more detail things like when and how to contact me when you go into labour, and other details before the birth
Post birth Care
Post-birth care. I will stay after your birth for 2-3 hours to help with initiating breastfeeding, retrieving food (or preparing food and help clean up if it's a home birth) and anything else you may need. Once family and friends start coming or I feel it's the right time to leave, I will make sure you are set up to rest and enjoy this beautiful gift you have brought into the world.
One or two In Home Postpartum visit 2-14 days after your birth to assist with any breastfeeding and/or parenting questions and draw you a healing newborn herbal bath.
Continuous birth doula support 24/7 as soon as the first deposit is made. Once you feel the first sign of labor, you can let me know so we can make a game plan. I will meet you at your home or your place of birth when my assistance is requested (usually once active labor has been established) and stay 1-2 hours after your baby is born or when family/friends start coming in.
Comfort techniques during labor including: Verbal encouragement & reassurance, massage, homeopathy, herbs, essential oils, relaxation & pain management techniques, positioning suggestions, plus information about medical procedures when needed.
